THE STORY

It all startet in 2016.
Jens the founder, became interested in Bachata. Back then, salsa was a big thing in Copenhagen and bachata was something people danced a bit at salsa parties, as a kind of break from the salsa. Every 7th or 8th song was perhaps a bachata. There were rarely workshops, no weekly classes or socials in Copenhagen. On 3 May 2016, Jens held his first bachata social. It was a private event, with 16 participants.
It lasted just 2 hours in a small dance hall.

In 2016 people said it wasn’t possible to have a bachata social with only bachata music, but it was.
Dominican music, in its original form, appeals very little to Scandinavians, but in the years around 2016 there was a big change in bachata. Both the music and the dance. Popular pop songs were made into bachata songs and more sensual and almost acrobatic movements began to be incorporated into bachata and since then bachata has grown bigger than salsa in large parts of the world, including Copenhagen.

Are you looking for bachata class?

In 2016, Jens went to a salsa festival in Madrid to dance bachata. Above the door to one of the bachata rooms was written “NON STOP BACHATA” and that gave Jens the idea to start NON STOP BACHATA in Copenhagen.

NON STOP BACHATA started in Østerbrohuset. First one Monday a month. Then every second Monday. At one point, NON STOP BACHATA at Østerbrohuset was so popular that it was almost impossible to get into the room.

In 2018, NON STOP BACHATA moved to the large dance hall in Skt. Johannesgården and we are still there. We began with every second Monday for a short period, but as it started to become more and more popular NON STOP BACHATA started to be held every Monday, only interrupted by Covid, summer holidays and Christmas. Now NON STOP BACHATA is a large and still strong growing dance community with a strong team behind, with more and more dedicated teachers.
